Cool Careers: Engineer

When you are a kid, your imagination goes non-stop! Who says that has to stop when you become a grown-up?

Now, what do engineers do? Well, it depends on what type of engineer we are talking about. There are many different categories within engineering, including these:

  • Aerospace Engineer: Designs aircraft and tests prototypes to make sure they function as designed | Earns about $115,200 each year

  • Agricultural Engineer: Solves problems related to agriculture

  • Biomedical Engineer: Designs prosthetic limbs and artificial organs, as well as the material used to manufacture them| Earns about $88,550 each year

  • Chemical Engineer: Solves problems that involve the production or use of chemicals

  • Civil Engineer: Design, builds, and supervises construction projects and systems| Earns about $86,640 each year

  • Electrical and Electronics Engineer: Designs and tests electrical equipment and systems| Earns about $99,070 each year

  • Environmental Engineer: Solves problems in the environment | Earns about $87,620 each year

  • Mechanical Engineer: design machines and other tools to help improve and expedite human life


Engineers must complete high school and college, receiving at least a four-year Bachelor's degree. More importantly, engineers must have the right attitudes and character traits to do the best job they can:
